Birds of a Feather Shell Cameo

This is a delightful carving of a woman with flowes in her hair. In front of her is a bird on a perch with its wings spread. Additional longer feathers are shown covering the rest of her bodice. She may have been meant to be hera with Zeus as the eagle. It is a very unique piece with a lot of character. Carved from a light blonde shell, the cameo measurs 1 and 5/8 inches by 2 and 3/8 inches and is set in a thin 14 kt gold wire frame designed for either pin or pendant.
