Ivory Oriental Marketplace Cameo

Obviously oriental in origin because of the style of buildings and trees used to enhance the scene, this deeply carve ivory cameo is a rarety. The cameo shows a marketplace with five men buying and selling goods. The detail is wonderful and the carving is amazing (almost 10 mm deep). The piece has been well preserved with no breaks or cracks in the carving. The cameo is mounted in a heavy gold setting which covers the entire back of the piece. The back is stamped 14 kt gold in two places. The piece is fastened with a c-clasp with a safety lock. The piece is oval and measures 1 and 3/4 inches (45 mm) wide, by 1 and 7/16 inches (37 mm) in height.
