14k White Gold Rose-Laden Cameo Brooch

Measuring 30mm x 40mm, this oval shell cameo brooch is Italian handcarved from a conch shell. Much of the white part of the shell is carved as a bust of a beautiful lady, with finely carved roses in her hair and at her shoulder. Her smooth face and neck illustrate the expert craftsmanship of the carver, who had to clear away the top white layer of the shell to "discover" the rose lady that emerged at his hands. This quality of cameo is becoming rare because the human cameo-carvers are a dying breed, being replaced by laser technology that lack the depth and the detail of the original handcarvings. The 14k white gold frame is finely etched with an eight-corner design and c-clasp pin. This estate item is in mint condition in every way.
