Zeus and Artemis (Diana) Meeting in the Clouds

At first glance, this marvelous cameo seems to show Zeus and Hera (his wife and Mother Earth); however, closer inspections reveals a small crescent moon on the head of the woman, indicating that she is meant to be Artemis (also known as Diana) the goddess of the hunt. This scene of the "Meeting in the Clouds" is classic to greek mythology, and a wonderful example of fine craftsmanship. The cameo is signed on the back, what appears to be "PL" (please see photo above). The shell cameo is prong set in a fancy bright yellow gold mounting with a rope design. The piece is circular and measures 2 and 1/8 inches (55 mm) in diameter.
