1876 Heirloom Christmas Cameo Locket
14 kt Gold, Engraved with Names and Date, Original Photo

This is a fabulous heirloom piece - a cameo locket dated 1876. The cameo is a beautiful portrait carving in deep red carnelian. Thewoman shown appears to be in a veil and may be in wedding attire. She wears drop earrings and a pearl necklace, and a bodice that is pinned at the shoulder. The cameo measures 1 and 1/16 inches by 13/16 inches. The cameo is set in a wonderful estruscan style locket. The locket does test 14 kt, although it is covered with an aged patina. The gold work includes fine bead work, thin rope edgeing, and small clover leaf accents. The locket is engraved on the back reading "J.D.R. to M.M. Rupp December 25, 1876" - obviously a very personalized Christmas present many years ago. The locket does contain an old photo of a man which very well may be J.D.R. himself. The locket hangs on a heavy gold filled chain covered with 14 kt gold flower accents. Each link is approximately 1/4 inch by 1/2 inch. The whol chain measures just over 16 inches long and closure with a large sliding ring clasp in the front. This is a one of a kind heirloom piece to be teasured for many years to come.
