This is a very beautifully made pin from the early 19th century. In the shape of a horseshoe, this delicate brooch features six 3 mm by 4 mm oval opal cabochons, and six 2.5 mm diameter round opal cabochons, each prong set to enhance this lovely piece. The opals are carefully accented by handsome goldwork, with fine detail in 14 kt gold. The piece has a horizontal, left closing pin with rotating locking clasp. A very nice accessory. The opals have been carefully matched for size, color and transparency, which adds to the beauty of the piece. The opals are semitranslucent with a strong blue-green play of color, and accents of yellow and orange. All of the opals are in good condition, as is the piece as a whole. The brooch measures 1 and 5/16 inches by 1 and 9/16 inches. The piece has a stamp reading "14" on the back.
