This is an older bar pin which reminds of places far away. Perhaps it was made in Australia, where so much of the worlds opal riches are found ..... The pin is beautifully constructed with open golden leaves forming the 2 and 1/4 inch by 5/8 inch bar pin. The center of the pin has four 2.5 mm by 5 mm opal cabochons forming a cross. These opals are semitransparent and show nice blue green play of colors. The cabochons are prong set with open backs, lifted off the leaf background to allow light to enter from behind. On each side of the central cross are two round opal cabochons (measuring approximately 2.5 mm in diameter each). These opals are also prong set, but show a greener-blue play of color than the large opals. The four are very nicely matched and accent the piece beautifully. The piece is stamped 14K on the back, along with some symbolism that resembles a lower case "f" on a line next to two "s" stacked on top of each other. A very wearable and remarkable bar pin that would enhance any wardrobe or bar pin collection.
