Boy (Putti) with a Ram
Three Dimensional Lava Cameo

More like a statue on a brooch than a cameo, this piece of art is a three dimensional lava carving of a boy carrying a ram on his shoulders. The boy wears an unusual hat which giving us a bit of insight into the lives of the past. The boy is nude, except for a drape over his shoulders - much the Putti (unwinged cherubs which adorn the ceilings) seen in the great cathedrals of Italy. The cameo is set in a gold frame brooch with an old c-clasp. The piece measures 1 and 1/4 inches (32 mm) in width by 1 and 3/4 inches (43 mm) in height and is over 20 mm in depth.
