Roman Beauty with Roses

"Thy beauty unsurpassed by the ages" Fabulously carved from brown conch shell, this lovely cameo depicts a young woman, with her long wavey hair adorned with a garland of roses. Her Roman styling (facial features, clothing, lack of jewelry and hair style) make her very classical in nature. The carving extends all the way to the edge of the cameo and has wonderful deep relief. In addition, the detail and finish on the piece is stunning - down to each rose pedal, stem and leaf. The cameo is set in a very well made gold setting that tests 14 kt gold. The frame has an intricate leaf and bead pattern that nicely complements the roses in her hair. In addition, the tone of the gold (a very deep slightly brown-golden tone) perfectly accents the rich chestnut brown of the shell's base color. This cameo measures 1 and 5/8 inches by 1 and 1/4 inches. With the gold frame, the whole piece measures 2 and 1/8 inches by 1 and 3/4 inches.
